Want to be in our next music video? Well we want you in it! The Steam Powered Giraffe fandom is filled with a diverse amount of people from all walks of life. We love showcasing all the talented, beautiful people that come to our shows and inhabit our corner of the web.
We have a song called Malfunction on our upcoming album Quintessential that deals with diversity and using the robot metaphor “malfunction” to apply to things that society may consider flawed or quirky. But we’re looking at it as a positive. That’s the theme here: A positive spin on being “broken.”
Granted, this can be a sensitive area for many folks. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea. So if you’re willing to participate, please know we will not disclose personal information or names (even if you want us to).
Please understand our intent is to paint our subjects in a positive light and to have fun! That said- we can only select a few of these to showcase, so there’s no guarantee your video will appear in the final project.
But, if you do end up creating something- we encourage you to share it on #whatsyourmalfunction via Tumblr or Twitter!
You may remember this project back in 2014, but we decided to hold off on releasing the song. With Malfunction’s release on Quintessential September 1st, we want to make the music video and utilize our fans! All past entries we’re discarding for the sake of relevance. But feel free to re-submit under the new requirements!
Lets get started!
You have until Sunday, July 24th to submit your video to us. After that date we won’t be accepting anymore entries.
Things You’ll Need:
-11 x 17 White Poster or Bristol Board -Black Sharpie pen -A cameraphone with a selfie option
Create a sign to hold up for your video selfie on a piece of 11 x 17 white poster or bristol board paper. Whatever you choose to write on, the sign should be in black ink with thick letters.
On one side, write down what people might perceive as your “malfunction.” Next, create a short selfie video in a well lit area. You can wear whatever you’d like. Maybe it’s just beautiful casual you in a t-shirt and jeans. Maybe you feel better as your fursona. Maybe cosplay represents you better. However you want to appear- do it (of course…nudity isn’t advised. :|).
In the video, hold your camera phone at fully extended arms length HORIZONTALLY WIDESCREEN
and hold up your sign for a few moments with your “malfunction” written on it. And remember to smile!
Keep in mind we need it to be you recording a selfie video of yourself, horizontal. No portrait shots.
Remember to fill out and sign the form completely! If you need to print, sign, and scan the document- do it! If you are a minor we do need your parents permission.
Your video will not be considered without a signed Video Release Form.
By submitting you understand that while we wish we could showcase all of these- only a select few will be used due to the time restraints.
However, we do encourage folks to post their videos (or jpgs or gifs) on #whatsyourmalfunction via Tumblr or Twitter.
